I have always wondered: what if the Internet disappeared tomorrow? What if a third world war broke out and we lost electricity and/or Internet? How to answer my questions without Google? It might be wise to have a copy of several online encyclopedias like Wikipedia?
It is true that if I am asked, in survival mode, when to plant carrots, I wouldn’t know how to respond (poor me)! That’s why I jump on my smartphone and type on Google: "when to plant carrot," it's crazy how dependent we are on Google or the Internet!
So, I thought, is it possible to have an offline copy of a site like Wikipedia? Well, yes! It exists, and it’s called Kiwix! (https://www.kiwix.org/fr/)
You can download the software here, it is available for Mac, PC, and Linux: http://download.kiwix.org/release/
And here are the files for Kiwix with the .ZIM extension: http://download.kiwix.org/zim/ and for Wikipedia it’s here: http://download.kiwix.org/zim/wikipedia/ (take the file wikipedia_FR for French), the French file is still 30 Gigabytes without the videos! Make sure you have enough space somewhere.
Kiwix is also available on the Apple App Store (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kiwix/id997079563) but also on the Android PlayStore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kiwix.kiwixmobile&hl=fr).

You also have the possibility to download 54,000 books offline from the Gutenberg site! Here’s the link to the file: http://download.kiwix.org/zim/gutenberg/gutenberg_fr_all_2018-10.zim
Browse a bit here, it’s crazy the sources to download offline here http://download.kiwix.org/zim/, with this, we are ready for survival mode ;)
